 Good relations with the community has an effect on how your institution is perceived and is the bedrock of “buzz.” Establishing these relations requires outreach by, in particular, the executive director with contact help from the board. Geoff Platt has given many interviews, spoken to scores of service clubs (Rotary, etc.) and other groups, toured VIPs around the properties he has managed, attended community meetings – all to demonstrate to the community that he and his institution are accessible and interested in their good will – to say nothing of financial support. He also has served as a volunteer on several nonprofit boards wherever he has been employed, which results in good networking opportunities as well as a demonstration of service beyond his workplace.
